Rules for the 2017 Challenge

NOTE: These rules are subject to change if needed to clarify issues that may arise. Rule changes will be announced on the www.greenbeanendurance.org website and on the Facebook group.

REGISTRATION
  1. Riders must be registered using the registration form by February 15, 2017.
  2. Registration is not complete until payment is received.
  3. Registration fee is $15/rider. These fees pay for the awards and maintenance of the website
  4. Rides must choose between the OneHorse:OneRider or Teams program.  A rider may not participate in both programs.
  5. Registration fees are non-refundable.

RIDER ELIGIBILITY
  1. Riders must be an AERC member in good standing.  No points will be awarded until membership has been paid.
  2. Riders must have less than 1000 combined AERC miles from both LD and endurance.
  3. A TEAM may include any combination of JR and SR riders and/or riders that have any experience level up to 1000 miles of AERC completions.

TEAM RULES
  1. Teams consist of five riders.
  2. A rider may only belong to one team.
  3. Each team is allowed to substitute one rider through May 1 only if no team points have been accumulated. Substitutions must be approved by either Deb or Ricky.
  4. Points are earned based on the rider, not the horse. A rider may earn points on multiple horses, regardless of who owns the horse.

ONE HORSE-ONE RIDER RULES
  1. Riders must register the horse's name and AERC number at sign up.
  2. A horse may be substituted at any time during the year and all points earned under the original horse will still be included.  Only one substitution allowed.

DIVISIONS - EXPERIENCE LEVELS
We assign teams and riders into experience levels based on their starting AERC mileage. Based on the number of participants in a division, we reserve the right to combine them for year end awards.  

  1. TEAMS  will be separated into divisions based on combined mileage of all riders.  
      • On-the-vine – 0 to 499 miles
      • Picked – 500 to 2499 miles
      • Cooked – 2500 to 5000 miles
  2. ONE HORSE:ONE RIDER will be separated into the following divisions.
      • On-The-Vine: 0-99 Miles
      • Picked: 100-499 Miles
      • Cooked: 500-1000 Miles.
      • Junior: 0-1000 Miles
ELIGIBLE RIDES/EVENTS
  1. Only AERC sanctioned rides are allowed to receive points. These can be LD or endurance.
  2. The competition is aligned with the AERC points year which is December 1 through November 30.. All rides completed during this time frame are eligible for points even if the rider has not yet registered.
  3. Only rides that are reported on the AERC website can be included.

POINTS/SCORING

  1. Riders will earn points according to the following scale.
      • Non-completion due to a vet pull: 1 point
      • Non-complete due to a rider option: 5 points
      • LD completion: miles x 1
      • Endurance 50-74 miles: miles x 1.25
      • Endurance 75 - 100 miles: miles x 1.5
      • Endurance 100 miles: miles x 1.75
  2. TEAM Rider Bonus points.  To request bonus points, an official form must be submitted.  GBE will need to validate these submissions.
      • Finding and utilizing a mentor -15 points
      • Volunteering a full day at an AERC ride - 10 point/ride; 20 points maximum.
      • Attending an endurance clinic (101 Intro, 201 Beyond the Basics) - 15 points each, max of 2/season)
      • Intro or Novice rides - 10-15 points (maximum of 30 points/season)
  3. ONE HORES:ONE RIDER  Bonus points.  To request bonus points, an official form must be submitted.  GBE will need to validate these submissions.
      • Finding and utilizing a mentor -15 points
      • Attending an endurance clinic (101 Intro, 201 Beyond the Basics) - 15 points each, max of 2/season)
      • Intro or Novice rides - 10-15 points (maximum of 30 points/season)
      • Volunteering (full day only) at an AERC ride - 10 points each
    SUBMITTING A RIDE OR BONUS POINT FORM
    1. Riders are required to submit a report for every ride attended regardless if the ride was completed.
    2. Rides must be submitted using the GBE submission forms.
    3. Anyone on a team may submit rides for that team.
    4. Rides and bonus points must be submitted within 15 days of the completion of each event. Riders who submit their record after 15 days risk losing points for that ride. I need to enforce this rule in 2017.
    5. Rider records will be verified against official AERC records.

    SCOREBOARD
    1. Scoreboards are updated within 7 days of each week as new rides are submitted.
    2. GBE reserves the right to have a blackout period at the end of the season that hides scores. 
    3. Updates and standings will be posted on the www.greenbeanendurance.org website as well as the Green Bean Endurance Competition facebook group.

    AWARDS
    1. A rider must receive a minimum of 1 point in order to receive an award.  This means if a rider on a winning team does not have any points, no team award will be given to that rider.  
    2. The number of awards given will vary depending on the total number of eligible teams.
    3. TEAM High point awards will be awarded in each division unless fewer than 5 teams per division are registered. GBE Secretary reserves the right to combine divisions based on number of registered teams. (Number of awards will vary based on participation rate)
    4. TEAM - INDIVIDUAL High point awards will be awarded to the top rider in each experience division.
      1. On-The-Vine: 0-99 Miles
      2. Picked: 100-499 Miles
      3. Cooked: 500-1000 Miles.
      4. Junior: 0-1000 Miles
    5. ONE HORSE:ONE RIDER High point awards will be awarded to the top rider in each experience division.
